How to Apply
(You must be registered to initiate the application process)
Your Application must be submitted online and 2 hard copies post marked no later than January 18, 2012.
- Once you are a registered user, you will be given access to the ANRF Grant Application Cover Sheet/Abstract, which allows for a 250-word summary of your project: Be succinct, but explain the hypothesis and experimental design. These are Word documents to download, complete and submit as part of a PDF of your entire application here on our web site, 64.64.21.76/~curearth.
Other items requested in your cover sheet:
- Include the name of the responsible official for the institution acknowledging approval for submission of the proposal.
- Where applicable, include Institutional Review Board approval for the use of animal and/or human subjects in the proposed study. Pending at time of submission is fine, but must be approved prior to funding.
Budget - Use the standard Budget form (also a Word document to download). Include a brief justification of the budget, and background information on personnel other than the PI in the proposal study. Post-doctoral researchers "to be named" will not be funded.
We also ask that two hard copies of your completed application be sent by mail as a backup, which is addressed in the steps below.
- Your proposal is completed separately and should be uploaded as a single Adobe PDF at any time under your user name after you’ve registered to initiate the application process. For your proposal, margins should not be less than 1 inch. Font size not less than 11-point Arial. No less than standard single-spaced lines.
- The scientific content of the proposal may not exceed 9 pages and should contain:
- Specific Aims – Specific goals of the research project including relevance to arthritis and autoimmune diseases (one page recommended).
- Experimental Design - How will the hypothesis be tested? Include relevant methods and statistical analysis. Include all figures and tables.
- Timeline for Project.
- Other items which must be included in the proposal:
- References cited - provide complete reference with title of article.
- Biographical sketch - Include education, training, honors, and publications. Limit 2 pages.
- Career Development Plan – Applicant’s future plans in 350 words or less. Include a brief history of the applicant’s association with the research institution, background leading to development of this project, etc.
- Current and Pending Support.
- A letter of support from your institution and/or mentor indicating their knowledge of and support for your proposed project.
- Proposals must be submitted electronically on or before January 18, 2012.
At any time in your Grant Application Process, you have the ability to complete your cover sheet and/or upload proposal files. You’ll find that, each time you login under your user name, your own “mini library” will show what you’ve uploaded previously. As you upload items, simply click: Save and complete application later. Remember to submit your final application as a single PDF file.
When EVERYTHING related to your proposal has been completed and uploaded, click the button that reads, Submit my completed application for review. This immediately notifies our Administrator.
Register to initiate the application process

Applicants will be notified of the grant review results by April 30. Grant term is June 1 through May 31.
Application for a Second-Year Grant Award
Your application must be submitted online and 2 hard copies postmarked no later than January 18, 2012.
Second-year funding is awarded on a competitive basis with all other applications. Receipt of a year-one award does not guarantee a second year of support.
- Use standardized Cover Sheet/Abstract and Budget Form. These are Word documents to download for you to complete and submit here on our website.
- Delineate progress made since receiving the ANRF grant, include your Hypothesis and Specific Aims for the second year.
- If there have been any changes since your original application, please explain.
- Include any publications or presentations resulting from the work done thus far.
- Limit length of scientific content to 9 pages, as in original application.
- Outline any pending support.
- Submit second-year applications as described above.
