How to Apply
  1. Please fill in completely the Grant Application Cover Sheet provided with abstract.

  2. On continuing pages, margins should not be less than 1 inch. Font size not less than 11-point Arial. No less than standard single-spaced lines.

  3. The scientific content of the proposal may not exceed 10 pages and should contain:

    • Cover Sheet/Abstract – a 250-word summary of the project contained within the cover page provided by the ANRF. Be succinct but explain the hypothesis and experimental design.

    • Specific Aims – Specific goals of the research project including relevance to arthritis and autoimmune diseases (one page recommended).

    • Experimental Design - How will the hypothesis be tested, include relevant methods and statistical analysis. Include all figures and tables.

    • Timeline for Project

  4. The Cover Sheet/Abstract, Specific Aims, Experimental Design, and Timeline must be within the 10-page limit.

  5. Other items which must be included in the proposal:

    • References cited - provide complete reference with title of article.

    • Biographical sketch - Include education, training, honors, and publications. Limit 2 pages.

    • Career Development Plan – Applicant’s future plans in 350 words or less. Include a brief history of the applicant’s association with the research institution, background leading to development of this project, etc.

    • Budget - Use the standard Budget Page provided by the ANRF. Include a brief justification of the budget, and background information on personnel other than the PI in the proposed study. Post-doctoral researchers "to be named" will not be funded.

  6. Include the name of the responsible official for the institution acknowledging approval for submission of the proposal.

  7. Where applicable, include Institutional Review Board approval for the use of animal and/or human subjects in the proposed study. Pending at time of submission is fine, but must be approved prior to funding.

  8. Proposals must be submitted electronically by January 16 or the next regular business day. Electronic submission instructions are as follow:

    • Please submit your proposal as a .pdf (Adobe Acrobat) file.

    • Please name the file with your last name, followed by an underscore, and the first letter of your first name.

      (Example: smith_j.pdf)

    • Attach the file and email to anrf@ix.netcom.com

    • If your file size exceeds 2 MB, please compress the file size using a Zip utility to help the transmission go smoothly.

  9. Send the original and two copies, postmarked January 16 or the next regular business day to:

Application for a Second-Year Grant Award

Second-year funding is awarded on a competing basis with all other applications. Receipt of a year-one award does not provide a guarantee of a second year of support.

  • Use standardized cover sheet, as in original application.

  • Delineate progress made since receiving the ANRF grant, include your hypothesis and Specific Aims for the second year.

  • If there have been any changes since your original application, please explain.

  • Include any publications or presentations resulting from the work done thus far.

  • Limit length to 10 pages, as in original application.

  • Use standardized budget page, as in original application.

  • Outline any pending support.

  • Submit second-year applications as described in steps #8 and #9 above.
